Fabric Flowers

I made these a few weeks ago while I was “studying” for my exams, so I am finally posting them here for the world to see.  Okay, so they’re not that impressive, but I think they’re pretty good, considering they were made at 12:30 am during the height of exam frenzy while I watched Sex and the City…  I’m planning on making many more of these, since I successfully coerced my roommate into letting me cut up her old curtains!

Also, thanks to the blog Wise Craft for the flower template!

Birthday dinner for dad

Adventuring outside the world of Kraft Dinner and foods made on tortillas used to be a challenge for me, however, I would like to think that I am very slowly becoming a bit more accomplished in the kitchen.  Anyways, my dad’s birthday is next week and since he will be in Sweden for the big day, we decided to celebrate a week early.  Obviously wanting to show off my newfound cooking abilities, I offered to make dinner and dessert for my dear old dad and the fam.  Thankfully, the meal turned out awesomely, and I managed to prevent the stove from lighting on fire.  I know, good job me.

I made two recipes from my nice, brand new cookbook, Canadian Living’s Everday Favourites cookbook, with which I am now completely enamored.  Here are the results of my afternoon labours…

Steak stir-fry with noodles
(Yes, in a shocking and unpredictable move I even ate the green peppers)…

Raspberry streusel coffee cake
(My dad loves raspberries, so this was the perfect grown-up birthday cake)…

Apple brie sandwich

Inspired a few weeks ago by the delicious apple brie panini I had in Ottawa’s Glebe neighbourhood, I promised myself I would make my very own version of this awesome lunch food.  Being too poor/cheap at school to buy a large chunk of brie, I was super happy to find out that we had the biggest piece in our fridge at home.  With said piece of cheese in mind, here is what I had for lunch today… I’m working on the food photography skills, bear with me…

S’mores cookies

I stumbled on the recipe for these delicious cookies on what promises to be one of my favourite future blogs, Baked Perfection.  I made the cookies a bit larger than what was originally proposed on the blog, and the end result was a single, gigantic pizza-like cookie, which had to be sliced into cute little rectangles of deliciousness.  The best part of this cookie-making extravaganza?  I have loads of leftover s’mores ingredients, so I will be eating this campfire dessert every night for the next month.
